Hello friends!

I’m fired up to finally announce my Spring Tour 2020. I love hitting up the Eastern US this time of year and we’ve hand-selected some of my favorite venues and cities. I’m changing things up on this tour and focusing more on instruments, custom visuals (by me), high-fidelity audio and presenting a truly unique and memorable experience. Plus some other surprises I hope you’ll enjoy. I’m almost done with my new album too, so stay tuned for details on some releases that will sync with this tour.

Big thanks to the incredible Morgan Mandala for the perfect artwork. Her work is outstanding, so definitely check out her other pieces if you love this poster art as much as I do.

I cannot wait to get back on the road again and see all of you, my wonderfully random family. 2020 here we go!!

After a successful debut of The Penumbra live band at Red Rocks, we are bringing the experience to Denver for another 2 night run at Ophelia’s Electric Soapbox. I couldn’t love this venue more, and I feel it’s the perfect place to share the musicianship of each band member.

The Penumbra is:
Ilya Goldberg on violin, and a multitude of other instruments
Colby Buckler on drums
Glenn Taylor on pedal steel
Me on vocals, guitar, and whatever other instruments I can fit in my van.

In the nature of keeping things random and weird, we are preparing a special themed experience unique to each night.

Night 1 (Friday – 12/13): Masquerade of Desire

Desire propels us to succeed, it guides us to our destiny, and challenges us to find our most potent expressions. It’s also such a sexy word, isn’t it? Come with your mask, or come with your masks removed. Let’s dress to the occasion and dance in the throws of desire.
I’ve been gifted the opportunity to produce new material twice this year in the beautiful Rocky Mountain National Park, and look forward to unveiling the magic of this potent place on night 1.
We are very excited to have support on this night from the incredible music of Dillard.

Night 2 (Saturday – 12/14): Time Traveler’s Soirée

Let’s travel together through time and celebrate this life in the now. Come dressed to represent your favorite moment in time (maybe it’s a decade, maybe it’s a person, maybe it’s something really cool none of us have experienced yet because it’s…future). Let’s fly together through the continuum of the universal fabric that binds us to eternity.
We look forward to presenting a journey into my discography, classic tracks in a new light, and also diving into a few timeless songs never before performed in the Penumbra spirit.
We are honored to have support on this night from the amazing Living Light.

Both nights will have meet-&-greets. Stay tuned for more info on that.

Poster art from Rey Chris Surposa. (Thanks Rey!)

Let’s rock Denver!! I cannot wait.

I am happy to announce my fall tour dates for 2019! I’ve been working on tons of new music and can not wait to bring it to all my favorite cities and venues. I always love fall tour and hitting up the west coast and mountain towns. Can’t wait to see you on the road! Artwork by the amazing Megan Walker (Reverie Ink.)

Hello, my friends. I am very excited to announce the pre-release of my new album, Anew. If you get it on iTunes or Bandcamp, you get the first track, Remain, for instant download or streaming. The theme of this album is likely my most personal and “song-based” album yet. Lots of lyrical content and structure. For the most part, I would say this album is minimal. I tried to pull out all the layers that seemed unnecessary and pare the songs down to their most basic elements. The album starts off dark and bouncy and slowly morphs into uplifting and cinematic. I hope you enjoy the journey as much as I did making this.

It is my pleasure to announce the dates for my upcoming spring tour in support of my new album, Anew. I can’t wait to hit the road and share all the new music I’ve been working on. My team worked hard to locate and secure some of the best venues and festivals in the world. I’ll be joined by some of my favorite artists as well. Bluetech, who also has a new album coming out, will be joining me for a solid run on the East coast. I’ll also be teaming up with the legends Desert Dwellers and Russ Liquid for some shows.

Big thanks to Daniel Beltrá for the incredible aerial photograph of the Amazon rainforest used for this poster and my album cover.

GA/VIP NIGHT 2

I am excited to present My inaugural two- night journey at my favorite venue in Denver, CO, Ophelia’s Electric Soapbox. This event will take place on Dec 7th & 8th. The theme of this doubleheader is Fate & Free Will. For a long time, I have lived by a philosophy that fate and free will exist simultaneously. Like a gyroscope, they are intrinsically connected, yet our minds cannot comprehend how they interplay. We are bound to our fate, yet have complete free will. Through this concept, I have found my lyrics and often this helps me understand song structure itself.

Fate is the unseen future that is already there, but not illuminated. In some ways, the concept of fate is harsh in its solidity, yet comforting in the knowledge that it is already written. Night one will feature a darker, heavier theme & flow from dusk to night with support from Denver locals Supersillyus & Blossomn.

Free will is the unformulated state of infinite possibility. All is illuminated and we are completely free to choose our path. In some ways it is soft in its openness, yet we must be trepidatious when stepping into the complete unknown. Night two will be lighter, more melodic and emotionally uplifting & thematically flow from dawn to day with Support from TOR & Blossomn.

I plan on having a lot of live instrumentation, vocals, and amazing guest performers both nights.

The artwork was custom made for this show by the incredible Marisa Aragón Ware. There are 2 posters that when put together form one complete masterpiece. She drew from creatures of the night and day and I feel as though she perfectly encapsulated the concept for these 2 nights. These will be available as prints at the show. This will be a one of a kind experience and we hope you will join us on the two-day journey.

About a year ago I asked my fans to submit a small clip panning their faces to help me make a music video. I got wrapped up in touring, but finally had a chance to sit down and stitch it all together (along with a few clips I took of friends and folks on the road) with one of the songs from my last album, Nartha.  I chose this song because somehow it makes me think about all the amazing people who come to my shows and have made an impact on me.
I received clips from all walks of life and from all over the world.  Spending some time editing this made me realize how much I appreciate the beauty of each individual, as we are truly one species. One family.  One gathering of souls gifted with this precious time together in this time on earth.

This video is pretty raw and by its nature, I don’t claim to see it as something really polished.  It’s really just my homage to you.  I know it sounds corny, but I love you.  I just can’t help it.
Thank you to everyone who contributed and thank you to anyone who just gets the often-repeated truth: we are one.

This is the first piece in my new “Reality Artifact” series. Each piece in the series is a combination of original music and hand crafted visuals. The concept of Reality Artifact is to create visuals that feel like music and are in touch with natural forces.

This first work is called Soul Slinger and it features some beautiful string melodies from the amazing Cello Joe. I created these visuals with ink, water, and paper. Aside from slow motion and mirror effects, there are no computer generated graphics in this piece. Please subscribe to my Youtube Channel to catch more Reality Artifacts as they are released.

 ReleaseCover(itunes)

“He’s always done it his way. On his own terms. Whether it was playing in heavy metal acts or brass bands, it didn’t matter. Random Rab has always held his banner high. And on October 9th, when Release is… well… released, the electronic music industry will once again give the man his due and admit, “yup, there’s only one Random Rab.”

Today, we’re thrilled to bring you the title track from the new album. The term “downtempo” belies the majesty, the utter mystical energy of a Rab tune. There’s power and poise, subtlety and grace. The sheer intensity of a hypnotizing groove and his cool, crisp vocals carry more force than a thousand blaring subs rattling out the hardest bass grooves. The charts and charts of electronic dance singles can’t measure up to the unfathomably deep intention this type of tune evokes. There’s just nothing like a new Rab tune. This one is going to be on repeat.

Enjoy this download for free for ONE WEEK only. Bay Area fans, you’re going to be lucky enough to catch Rab tomorrow (Oct 3) at 1015 Folsom with his percussionist Cedar and many more special guests as part of the live band, including one Mr. Android Jones generating live visuals. He’ll be on tour with Random Rab for special dates this month, hitting Sonic Blossom in Denver, and The Manifestation Celebration in Austin, TX. Stay tuned for a HUGE special contest announcement tomorrow!”

Release - The new album from Random Rab

The new album by Random Rab has been announced for release this fall.

Check out this new music video for the song by Random Rab “The Plastic People” The title track to the upcoming movie, Exile Nation: The Plastic People

After 9/11 the US began mass deporting “non-citizens.” Current estimates: 4 to 6 million. These policies hit Latinos hardest, mostly Mexicans: 97% of those deported. Without Mexican family or citizenship, Mexicans raised in the US are disavowed by both nations. They struggle to survive in a hellish limbo along the border separated from everyone and everything they have ever known. Shot on location in Tijuana, this film follows the lives of three men stuck in an impossible situation: how they find meaning and purpose in a world where deportees live in cardboard shacks and sewer pipes in the middle of a Cartel war zone just twenty miles from San Diego.

Directed & edited by Charles Shaw & Daniel Garcia

I met Katie via a friend and we only knew each others music from afar. We wrote a few emails and I sent her the music. Katie’s voice is unmistakable and to work with her was an honor. When I got the vocals back from her, I was blown away. Director Ivan Landau made a video for this track below. Please check it out!

Random Rab’s debut solo album release, EPICYCLE, a 2-Disc collection of original music composed and produced in 2001.

“I wrote this album in 2000 & 2001. This was made before I had a computer system and was created exclusively on live hardware. I used a lot of Electribes, Roland samplers, Boss and other guitar FX, other random drum machines and recorded it to tape. Because of the method used to create this, I did not multi-track any of it or have the ability to edit anything but the overall mix. Basically each song is a live recording of a jam that I stitched together into an album. ”

This is a CD I made with Trippy Nick in 1998. We had such a blast! I’m sure it comes through in the music. I put a selection from the CD up here for people to enjoy.

The entire album was recorded on a 8-track reel-to-reel! Pretty archaic at this point, but that was all we knew at the time.

Enjoy!
